Description
West Walk | Forestry England
With walking trails, cycling, outdoor play and picnic spots, West Walk is the ideal family day out. At 350 hectares, it is the largest remaining fragment of the ancient Forest of Bere. Set amongst the tall pine trees, our play area is great for keeping your children entertained. Including a balance beam and all-ability swing, swinging hoops, rotating climbing chimney and for the little ones, a giant sand pit and wooden playhouses. Play together and create your own temporary woodland hideout – find your way to the den making area and see what adventure awaits! There are two waymarked walking trails and many natural paths to help you discover West Walk on foot or by bike. We are sorry but you cannot barbecue in our forests at this time. This is to help prevent forest fires and reduce waste. Please do not bring any barbecues into this forest. Please follow our forest code to help you enjoy the forest responsibly. If you are visiting with your dog, follow our dog code, keep them under close control to help protect local wildlife such as ground nesting birds, and bag and bin your dog’s waste. Catering update In January, we ran an open and fair tender for West Walk to make sure that visitors to our forests are getting good, fresh food, and high-quality service. In this case, the winning catering contractor was chosen for a variety of reasons and price was only a small element. We insist that appropriate levels of food hygiene qualifications are in place, and quality and sustainability meet our requirements. The Seahorse Coffee Bar serve local barista coffee, hot chocolate & teas. giant sausage rolls, vegan rolls, scotch eggs and a variety of cakes. Cold cans & a selection of fruit. Opening hours: Wed, Thurs & Sun 9.30 - 3pm and Fri & Sat 9.30 - 4.30pm We are a non-profit making public body and rely on a variety of sources of income including selling our sustainable timber and car parking. We receive relatively little tax-payer funding and work to keep most of our income from other areas. Our income is reinvested back into the nation’s forests. We have to re-tender our contracts periodically and the current catering agreement had expired.
